Job Overview
The Construction Project Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in planning, monitoring, and reporting on the performance of construction projects undertaken by LafargeHolcim Botswana. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the incumbent will develop and maintain detailed cost‑control systems, schedule baselines, and risk registers, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive project control plans, including cost, schedule, and scope management frameworks.
- Prepare and update detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for each construction phase.
- Monitor project progress against baseline schedules using Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent tools, and generate variance analysis reports.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, providing actionable recommendations to senior management.
- Collaborate with design engineers, procurement teams, and site supervisors to ensure alignment of project data and documentation.
- Produce weekly and monthly performance dashboards that highlight key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics.
- Support contract administration by reviewing change orders, variations, and claims for financial impact.
- Facilitate regular project control meetings, presenting insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with LafargeHolcim’s health, safety, and environmental standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in project control software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Asta Powerproject) and advanced Excel modeling.
- Strong analytical abilities with a focus on cost‑benefit analysis and risk assessment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for clear reporting to multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high accuracy.
- Knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and local regulatory requirements in Botswana.
- Leadership qualities to influence cross‑functional teams and drive continuous improvement.
Education
The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline. Professional certifications such as PMP, PMI‑ACP, or a recognized Project Controls qualification are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
A minimum of five to seven years of hands‑on experience in project controls within the construction industry is required.
