Job Overview
WorldFish Botswana is seeking a dynamic Aquaculture Systems Engineer to design and implement sustainable fish farming solutions in Kgalagadi. This role will support the organization’s goal of enhancing local food production while preserving natural water resources. Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize aquaculture systems for freshwater fish production in arid environments
- Conduct feasibility studies for new fish farm installations and water resource utilization
- Collaborate with local stakeholders to develop training programs on sustainable aquaculture practices
- Monitor water quality parameters and implement biosecurity protocols to ensure fish health
- Prepare technical reports and present findings to project sponsors and government agencies
- Integrate renewable energy solutions into aquaculture operations to reduce environmental impact
Required Skills
- Proven experience in aquaculture system design and operation
- Strong analytical skills in water resource management and environmental impact assessment
- Proficiency in CAD software for engineering designs
- Knowledge of Botswana’s aquaculture regulations and environmental policies
- Excellent communication and cross-cultural collaboration abilities
- Ability to work in remote field locations with limited infrastructure
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
- Master’s Degree preferred but not required
Experience
- 3-5 years of professional experience in aquaculture engineering or water resource management
- Previous work in arid or semi-arid regions is a significant advantage
Salary
200,000 – 300,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
