Job Overview
The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, reliability and efficiency of Orange Botswana’s mobile network. Reporting to the Senior Network Architect, the incumbent will analyze network data, design optimization strategies, and implement solutions that improve coverage, capacity and quality of service. Key Responsibilities
- Analyze network performance metrics using advanced analytics tools to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement optimization plans for radio access network (RAN), core network and transport layers.
- Collaborate with RF engineers, planners and vendor teams to fine‑tune parameters and deploy software upgrades.
- Conduct drive tests, post‑deployment verification and quality assurance to ensure compliance with service level agreements.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate regular reports for senior management.
- Participate in the design and rollout of 5G trials, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and field technicians.
- Maintain documentation of optimization processes, configurations and best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance analysis tools (e.g., Atoll, TEMS, NetAct).
- In‑depth knowledge of LTE and emerging 5G technologies, including radio planning and optimization.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Cisco, Nokia, Ericsson) will be given preference.
Experience
Applicants should have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in mobile network optimization, preferably within a major telecom operator or a reputable consultancy. Experience with both 4G LTE and early‑stage 5G deployments is highly desirable.
Salary
The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 120,000 to SSP 180,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and incentives are also part of the remuneration package.
