Job Overview

The Wind Turbine Maintenance Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of Solarcentury’s wind assets located throughout the Okavango Delta region. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the engineer will lead preventive and corrective maintenance programmes, conduct detailed inspections, and coordinate with cross‑functional teams to minimise downtime and maximise energy output. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for all wind turbines under your jurisdiction.
• Perform on‑site inspections, diagnostics, and repairs, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and local safety regulations.
• Lead root‑cause analysis investigations for recurring faults and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
• Collaborate with the engineering design team to optimise turbine performance and support upgrades or retrofits.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service reports, and spare‑parts inventory using the company’s asset management system.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and field staff.
• Coordinate with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) officers to enforce rigorous safety protocols during all maintenance activities.
• Participate in performance reviews, KPI reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in turbine control systems, SCADA platforms, and condition‑monitoring tools.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with a data‑driven approach.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills, capable of liaising with multinational vendors and local stakeholders.
• Ability to work at heights and in remote field locations under varying weather conditions.
• Familiarity with Botswana’s HSE regulations and international standards such as IEC 61400.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Wind Turbine Technician (CWT) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in wind turbine maintenance, preferably with exposure to both on‑shore and off‑shore installations. Experience with predictive maintenance technologies and asset management software will be considered an advantage.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from 120,000 SSP to 180,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for remote site work are also part of the compensation package.
