Job Overview
The Corporate Counsel will join KPMG Botswana’s Legal & Compliance department to provide comprehensive legal support to the firm’s operations in Botswana and the wider Southern African region. This role involves advising senior management on corporate governance, contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with audit, tax and advisory teams to ensure that all client engagements and internal projects adhere to applicable laws and industry standards. As a key member of the legal team, the Corporate Counsel will also contribute to the development of internal policies, support mergers and acquisitions, and represent KPMG in external legal matters. Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, service agreements, and partnership documents.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions.
- Develop and update internal policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
- Conduct legal research and stay current with changes in Botswana law and international regulations.
- Collaborate with audit, tax and advisory teams to ensure integrated service delivery.
- Represent KPMG in negotiations, hearings, and dispute resolution processes.
- Assist in training staff on legal and compliance matters.

Minimum of five (5) years of post‑qualification experience in corporate law, preferably within a professional services firm or a multinational corporation. Experience in the Southern African legal environment and familiarity with the Botswana Companies Act and related statutes is essential.
Salary
The role offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications, plus performance‑based incentives.
