Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct soil sampling, testing, and analysis to assess nutrient levels, pH balance, and organic matter content.
  • Develop and implement soil improvement strategies, including crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic amendments.
  • Collaborate with farmers and agricultural extension officers to provide tailored soil health recommendations.
  • Monitor and report on the impact of soil management practices on crop yield and environmental sustainability.
  • Stay updated on emerging soil science technologies and advocate for their adoption in local farming practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in soil sampling, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of soil biology, chemistry, and erosion prevention techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills for training farmers and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping or agricultural software for spatial soil analysis.
  • Ability to work in remote rural areas and adapt to diverse field conditions.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or related discipline. A Master’s Degree is a plus.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in agricultural research, soil science, or environmental consulting. Prior work in Botswana’s agricultural sector is advantageous.

Salary

250,000 – 350,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
