Job Overview
As a Machine Learning Engineer at AWS Botswana, you will design, develop, and deploy scalable machine learning models that power intelligent services for a diverse portfolio of clients. You will collaborate with data scientists, solution architects, and product managers to translate business challenges into robust AI solutions hosted on AWS platforms such as SageMaker, Lambda, and EMR. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high‑impact projects ranging from predictive analytics for agricultural yield forecasting to real‑time fraud detection for financial services. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, train, and optimize machine learning models using Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and AWS SageMaker.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements, define data pipelines, and ensure model scalability.
- Implement end‑to‑end MLOps workflows, including CI/CD, monitoring, and automated model retraining.
- Perform feature engineering, data preprocessing, and exploratory data analysis on large, heterogeneous datasets.
- Ensure model compliance with data privacy regulations and AWS security best practices.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions.
- Document model architecture, performance metrics, and deployment procedures for internal and client reference.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning libraries such as Scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Hands‑on experience with AWS AI services (SageMaker, Rekognition, Comprehend, etc.).
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling, deep learning, and natural language processing.
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS).
- Ability to design and implement scalable data pipelines using AWS Glue, Athena, or Redshift.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
Education
A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years of professional experience building and deploying production‑grade machine learning solutions, preferably within cloud environments. Experience in sectors such as agriculture, mining, finance, or public services in Botswana will be considered an advantage.
