Job Overview
The Solar Photovoltaic Project Engineer will lead the technical design, implementation, and commissioning of utility‑scale solar PV installations in the Mmadinare region and surrounding areas. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, external consultants, and local authorities to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The engineer will be responsible for translating client requirements into detailed engineering solutions, overseeing procurement, managing construction activities, and ensuring compliance with national regulations and international best practices. Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed engineering designs, layout plans, and electrical schematics for solar PV projects ranging from 10 MW to 50 MW.
- Conduct site assessments, resource analysis, and feasibility studies to optimize system performance.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to source high‑quality PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, and balance‑of‑system components.
- Lead construction supervision, ensuring adherence to safety standards, project schedules, and quality control procedures.
- Manage commissioning activities, performance testing, and handover documentation to clients and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with local utilities and government agencies to secure grid interconnection agreements and permits.
- Provide technical support during operation and maintenance phases, troubleshooting issues and recommending improvements.
- Prepare comprehensive project reports, cost estimates, and risk assessments for senior management.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of solar PV system design, electrical codes (IEC, NEC), and grid integration.
- Proficiency in engineering software such as PVSyst, AutoCAD, and PowerWorld.
- Excellent project management abilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder communication.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, perform performance modeling, and optimize system efficiency.
- Effective problem‑solving skills and the capacity to work under pressure in remote field locations.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Setswana is an advantage.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PV Installation Professional (NABCEP) or equivalent are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years’ experience in solar PV project engineering, with a proven track record of delivering utility‑scale projects from concept through commissioning. Experience working in Botswana or similar African markets is preferred.
