Job Description (JD)
The Maintenance Coordinator – Shaft Services will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling all maintenance systems and procedures within shaft operations to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Effectiveness
- Ensure efficient execution of plant maintenance and shaft services operations
- Monitor equipment availability and minimize operational downtime
- Support continuous improvement in mining maintenance workflows
Maintenance Systems & Procedures
- Develop and implement structured maintenance planning systems
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and operational procedures
- Maintain asset reliability across shaft equipment systems
Maintenance Management
- Supervise maintenance schedules for winders, conveyances, and heavy machinery
- Coordinate breakdown and preventive maintenance activities
- Ensure timely repairs and system restoration
Contractor Management
- Manage external contractors involved in maintenance operations
- Ensure quality compliance and safety adherence on-site
People Management
- Lead and guide mechanical teams and maintenance personnel
- Promote technical skill development and performance efficiency
Budget & Resource Management
- Assist in controlling maintenance budgets and resource allocation
- Optimize cost efficiency in mining maintenance operations
Safety, Health & Environmental Compliance
- Enforce strict safety compliance in underground mining environments
- Ensure adherence to environmental and mining safety regulations
Education Requirements
- Minimum Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering OR
- National Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering OR related technical field
Experience Required
- Minimum 8 years post-qualification experience in a mining environment
- Substantial experience in shaft services operations
- Proven background as Mechanical Foreman or Supervisor
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Shaft infrastructure
- Winders systems
- Conveyance mechanisms
- Industrial mechanical equipment
