Job Overview
The Network Security Engineer will play a pivotal role in safeguarding Orange Botswana’s extensive telecommunications infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of Network Security, the incumbent will design, implement, and manage security controls that protect the network from evolving cyber threats. This role involves close collaboration with network architects, operations teams, and external partners to ensure that security is embedded in every layer of the network lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust network security architectures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN solutions.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analyses to identify and remediate security gaps.
- Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor network traffic and security alerts using SIEM tools, responding to incidents with appropriate containment and remediation actions.
- Collaborate with network engineering teams to integrate security controls into new infrastructure projects and upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and cross‑functional teams on security best practices.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation for management, auditors, and regulatory bodies, ensuring transparency and compliance.
Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of network protocols, routing, switching, and security technologies (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto).
- Proficiency with security tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint protection platforms.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a proactive approach to threat detection.
- Excellent communication skills for translating technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, POPIA, and telecommunications standards.
- Relevant certifications (CISSP, CCNP Security, CEH) are highly desirable.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications will be considered an advantage and may influence compensation.
Experience
Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in network security within a telecommunications or large‑scale ISP environment. Demonstrated success in designing secure network architectures and managing incident response processes is essential.
